pacific for less four seasons

Is April a good month to visit?

by Mararet
(UK)

We are booked to travel the first week of April and I'm having second thoughts about the possibility of rainy weather. Our travel agent assured us should not be an issue but I realize now, it could be a time with more overcast weather and higher likelihood of rain. I'm curious, would you recommend reconsidering our timing? I REALLY do not want to travel so far and spend that kind of money for what feels to me now, as the possibly of still hitting a rainy and overcast season. Thank you!

Bora Bora Island Guide's Response

Hi Margaret,

The weather is a tricky thing as we really don't know what it is going to do! Forecasts can only be so accurate and looking at yearly trends only shows us averages.

Looking at April weather from a historical perspective, you can see on our weather chart that April has more hours of sunshine and about the same amount of average rainfall as in July (which is peak season).

This is the tropics, so it really can rain at any time of year. Most often though, rain showers are only for brief periods. This little micro climate also means that it can be raining on one side of the island and not the other.

We consider December, January and February the months that are most likely to have enough rain to disturb a holiday - but in saying that - we have had plenty of sunny Christmas's and New Years in Bora Bora!

April is a great month to travel to Bora Bora as accommodation prices are lower than the high season months, and you don't have as many travelers there. Peak season (July an August) in particular have an influx of Europeans and Americans because of the vacation breaks they have during that time. In April, it will be quieter.

When it comes down to it, the weather you have on any vacation you take is mostly down to luck! The good thing about Bora Bora, is it is beautiful even when it rains, and rain is usually a passing shower. There are plenty of lagoon activities you can do even when it is raining.

I would feel comfortable booking a holiday in April. Especially with lower prices and less tourists. Have you got a really good deal for going out of peak season? If it is really a concern to you, you might want to change the time you go, but keep in mind that the dryer months also tend to have more wind as that's when the trade winds blow.

We actually recommend April as one of the best months to go to Bora Bora, as you can read here.

I hope that helps you! Let me know what you decide.

Kind regards,
Melinda
