Bora Bora Shuttle Bus to Hotel Maitai

by Paul
(Brisbane, QLD, Australia)

Hi Melinda,

Thanks again for your great website.

In several different places online I have read that there are buses that run between Vaitape and Matira Beach, stopping at hotels for 500XPF per person per ride.

Hotel Maitai (where we will be staying in December 2018) has offered to book the bus for us for 1,505XPF per person per ride. There are two of us.

Obviously we would rather pay 500XPF but I cannot work out how to book the bus without involving our hotel.

Can you advise me on what the correct price should be and how I can book the bus directly? Perhaps it's possible to pay for a ticket upon arrival, without any booking?

Thanks for reading.

Bora Bora Island Guide's response:

Hi Paul,
We do not recommend using the public bus you are referring to called 'Le Truck' as the service is unreliable and not suited to travelers with luggage.

Your other option to get to the Maitai is to take the free Air Tahiti boat from the airport to Vaitape, and then take a taxi from Vaitape to the Maitai. The taxis in Bora Bora are reasonably cheap, especially because distances are not far for most trips. Just be aware that Taxis in Bora Bora can charge for each item of luggage that is handled. The taxi from Vaitape to Le Maitai should cost around 20,000XPF.

If you are looking for ways to save money before leaving for your trip to Bora Bora and smart savings while you are in Bora Bora, you might be interested to read our eBook "What your travel agent may NOT tell you about Bora Bora". We show you how to make the best choices and save money.

Good luck with your planning and preparations for Paradise.

Kind regards,
Melinda
